Why focus on the Body first?

When I introduce my EmBody Joy Coaching system at meetings, consultations and events I immediately get asked, why focus on the body first?

I am not surprised by this question. Except for professional athletes, most of us are not socialized to associate the way we relate to our bodies with success.

I ask my coaching clients to focus on their bodies first for the following reasons:

1- Our bodies are our primal channel of communication with the world. Our senses and the reptilian brain (the oldest part of the brain, which controls the body's vital functions such as heart rate, breathing, body temperature and balance) are fully loaded with millions of years of evolutionary wisdom. The body let’s us know what is good, bad, what is safe and what is dangerous. In our early years the guidance of our bodies ensures our safety and health development. As we develop language and logical thinking we tend to disconnected from the body as our primal source of information, this can lead to making choices not in our best interest. The goal of the EmBody Joy process to give us access to our holistic intelligence, to create a partnership between body and mind that helps of craft our most joyful lives.

2- Our body is the foundation on which we build our lives. If we are connected to it, accept it and meet it needs, it will reward us with more energy and a greater sense of wellbeing.

3- Our bodies have been used as tools to manipulate, control and oppress us. Many of us have been socialized to feel inadequate because of the ways our bodies look. Other of us have been traumatized by pain inflicted on our bodies. Accepting, loving and caring for our bodies disempowers negative messages, and can help heal the pain of trauma. (Disclaimer: As a coach I help my clients maximize their potential and achieve their most ambitious dreams. If you are impacted by trauma and abuse I highly recommend you seek the services of a mental health professional.) Reclaiming bodies agency and celebrating their uniqueness, elevates our confidence and allows us to take bigger leaps towards freedom and success.

I hope this answers the question. If you have any other questions feel free to ask them in the comments section below.

Hugs!
